For three decades, Indianapolis’ leaders have imagined an enhanced I-70 corridor. On October 7, we’re going to make it happen in a single day–the 2010 Lilly Global Day of Service.

Red t-shirts will once again pour into the community as 8,500+ Eli Lilly and Company employees go to work along I-70 for the third annual Lilly Global Day of Service. It’s also the third time Lilly has partnered with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. for the local Day of Service events.

In the previous two years, over 40,000 Lilly employees from more than 50 global locations participated, making Lilly’s Global Day of Service one of the world’s largest-ever corporate volunteerism events.

In Indianapolis, last year’s event was a catalyst that generated over 35,000 hours of volunteer time in a single day toward community improvement projects in Central Indiana.

In 2010, the service extends outside the roadway.

All Lilly employees all have the opportunity to contribute to the 2010 Global Day of Service. Thousands of Lilly employees work outside Indianapolis, including over 20,000 who work in other countries. Volunteer projects are planned in 26 countries.

And because of travel and other commitments, some Indianapolis-based employees who can’t participate in A Greener Welcome have other opportunities to volunteer:

Building two Habitat for Humanity homes
Walking to treat childhood diabetes and fight tuberculosis
